Air Aroma & The Sapphire Project

Air Aroma was honoured to be the official scent journey partner for The Sapphire Dinner 2024, which was held June 20th to highlight the importance of ocean conservation. Attendees included leaders and philanthropists, art patrons, politicians, marine scientists, and prevalent media. Installing an oceanic style fragrance called Deep Dive via HVAC connected Ecoscent diffusers, the ambient scent filled the space effortlessly, transforming it into an aquatic environment fully realized by the accompanying visuals and soundscapes. The Sapphire Dinner scent worked in tandem with mesmerizing projections, live musicians, dancers, and lighting design reflective of the deep waters.

The Sapphire Project is an Australian-based initiative dedicated to raising funds and awareness for ocean conservation. The project supports organizations focused on protecting and preserving marine ecosystems, particularly the Great Barrier Reef. It aims to unite and inspire communities to take action in safeguarding oceans by promoting sustainability and hosting events.

The Sapphire Project Dinner 2024 Scent

Scenting A Unique Event Location

Held at the Tank at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the exclusive event was the first ever dinner in this impressive exhibition space, which has been transformed from a former World War II fuel tank into a monumental art venue. Part of the Sydney Modern Project, this 2,200-square-metre underground tank offers a unique environment for large-scale art installations, with a postindustrial appearance and special heritage character. The Sapphire Dinner scent breathed new life into the space and connected the senses for a memorable and touching effect.

Raising over $1.6 million to safeguard the precious marine ecosystems and the many lives that depend on it, the event was a huge success. Significant funds will go towards supporting Great Barrier Reef Foundation for reef rescue and restoration with additional grants to University of Sydney, Lizard Island Research Station, Biopixel Oceans Foundation, and Australian Sea Lion Recovery Foundation. Fellow partners of the event included Tiffany & Co, Range Rover, and Moet & Chandon. Air Aroma provided a luxury raffle prize of a signature scent package, offering bespoke scent design and ambient scenting services.

Sensory Underground, an exclusive dining event, part of the Anything But Square Festival. Held in a secret underground venue beneath Fed Square, guests were immersed into an innovative, multi-sensory experience. The event was designed to deliver a range of sensory art, food, and entertainment experiences in Melbourne’s iconic venue. A place where art could be heard, touched, and tasted.

Entering through Platform 13, Flinders St Station, diners were treated to a futuristic inspired four-course meal prepared by Tokyo Tina. Each dish being carefully designed around current food forecasts for the year 2045, including sustainable food practices and seasonal local produce. The experience included Blade-Runner inspired light installations by Melbourne artist Kit Webster, alongside the ambient electronic soundtrack by Rival Consoles (London) to create a multidimensional environment. Guest were also treated to a virtual reality spa by Phoria and an Asahi After Dark cocktail bar.

The event was set across a series of 90-minute sittings between July 31st and August 11th in a rarely seen space below Fed Square in Melbourne’s CBD. Sensory Underground partnered with Air Aroma to incorporate the ideal scent into the event. To add another dimension and create a remarkable experience for their guests. Upon entry, a cocktail inspired fragrance was used, referencing notes of gin, perfectly complementing the cocktail guests received upon arrival. Diners were then encouraged to walk through the Aroma Sauna. Creating a truely immersive experience as they inhaled a beautifully balanced blend of Australian natives while sipping on their drink.

Artists Gavin Bell, Jarrah de Kuiper, and Simon McGlinn (Greatest Hits) have returned to Melbourne. To showcase their work “Untitled” at Neon Parc, part of the Charm School exhibition. First debuting in Melbourne 2012, the work is a replicated scent of the brand-new MacBook Pro. Being unboxed for the first time and diffused through Air Aroma’s Aroslim diffuser.

After travelling Tokyo, Paris and New York, the work has gained significant global interest. Sparked by the public’s obsession with new technological advancements. Greatest Hits describes the work as “an attempt to encapsulate the idea of “newness” and archive the essence of that fleeting moment”. After 6 years and without much change to the design, as well as the form of function, Melburnians can re-live the MacBook fragrance in a moment of desire which is both nostalgic and static.

When developing the fragrance, a new Apple MacBook Pro was delivered to our perfumers in France. Opening it for the first time, experiencing all the unique aromas and textures. Unwrapping the slightly static cellophane reveals a sweet, crinkly, translucent plastic scent. A wave of dry, warm, papery aromas radiates from the painted cardboard and ink of the box. A bitter sweetness from glue adhesives and ambery undertones of rubber clash. Giving away to the cold and clean metallic scents of the aluminium MacBook itself.

To experience the scent for yourself, you can visit the exhibition from February 2nd – April 24th, 2018. Charm School Exhibition Neon Parc (Brunswick) 15 Tinning Street, Brunswick 3056 Melbourne, Victoria.

For details about the exhibition please visit the Neon Parc website. For more information on the artistic collaboration group, visit the Greatest Hits website. Our sense of smell is one of the most important ways in which we connect with the world around us. It is the sense most closely linked with memory. For that, it is also highly emotive with fragrances, being able to convey a vast array of emotions and feelings. It is not surprising then that a museum dedicated solely to perfume has opened its doors in France.

Le Grand Musee du Parfum. The world’s first scent-centric attraction, located in Paris, the capital of perfume. The museum is set in the heart of Paris’s Golden Triangle inside the 19th century mansion that was formerly Christian Lacroix’s haute couture house. The content takes visitors through a multi-sensory journey. Learning the history and science of perfume, making use of high-tech graphic, sound, and scent installations.

The olfactory journey begins in ancient Egypt with the first fragrance ever created by man. Kyphi, a pungent woody compound used to invoke the gods. Visitors are then guided through the scents of different eras throughout history to the 20th century where Paris is consolidated as the centre of scent and perfumery. Interactive installations have been designed to allow tourists to smell the 25 iconic base ingredients used by perfumers. This includes Rose absolute, Orange Blossom, or Patchouli.

The Garden of Scents hosts an artistic installation of trumpet-like diffusers. Emitting various evocative smells such as fire smoke, Cinnamon and even Coca-Cola for visitors to identify. It is here where visitors will learn the extraordinary emotional power of scent. Behind the mansion, a garden will be planted with aromatic plants and flowers. Ones specially cultivated for their scent such as Jasmine and Rose.

The museum boasts state-of-the-art technology. Allowing visitors to record the fragrance accents they like on an electronic card as they make their way around the exhibits. At the end of the experience, interactive stations will allow patrons to purchase perfumes containing the ingredients and fragrance accents they have enjoyed. The innovate museum hopes to attract the increasing number of tourists that visit Paris for luxury shopping and lead visitors deep into the secrets of perfume making.

To learn more or visit the museum, go to the Le Grand Musee du Parfum website.

Discover Melbourne’s spring racing carnival, the biggest event of the year. With racegoers gathering every year to Flemington Racecourse, flaunting their stylish outfits. All forming the sophistication and elegance that the spring carnival brings.

To celebrate the carnival in style, the Flemington Fling bar is the place to be. This year Schweppes have paired with Air Aroma to turn their marquee into a unique multi-sensory experience. High profile celebrities, race sponsors and VRC members, to name a few, are the people you may see around this years Melbourne Cup.

Schweppes will provide their guests with an experience to remember. Bringing together the best aspects of food, drink and design to create an unforgettable marquee. Using scent to enhance the experience, each race day begins with rich flavours of Citrus. Together with a zesty burst and fresh, watery note, it creates a delicious fragrance for the Schweppes Indian Tonic Water. This unique blend is inspired by the natural flavours and tropical plantations of the drink. The second half of the race days are scented with a warm blend of Citrus and Ginger with a small hit of aromatic spices. Creating a scent that is rich and bold, inspired by the unique taste of the Schweppes Dry Ginger Ale.

Both fragrances have an immersive experience that represents the Schweppes flavours bringing ‘Schweppervescence’ to life. The Schweppes marquee will be entertaining its guests throughout the Melbourne Carnival. This includes Derby Day, Emirates Melbourne Cup Day, Crown Oaks Day and Emirates Stakes Day.

The NGV is currently exhibiting, “Hyper Natural: Scent from Design to Art” an olfactory exhibition, curated by Chandler Burr, New York Times perfume critic and author. The first of it’s kind in Australia, Chandler has an exhibition in the NGV’s garden, 7 Guerlain fragrances paired besides their main key design ingredient molecules for comparison. The exhibition illustrates the story and history of olfactory design and innovation and presents the unsuspecting visitor with a visceral exploration of this overlooked design medium.

In his keynotes talk, Chandler explained how new scent materials have a huge impact on the way “olfactory-works” (what we have known up to now as fragrances), are designed. Referring to synthetic materials only, he explains how these freed the designers from the limitations of nature allowing them to introduce new, impossible scent designs ranging from Abstract Expressionism to Surrealism and Photo-Realism. The talk and exhibition really serve to shift visitor’s perceptions of scent and shine a light onto the fascinating and under-acknowledged medium of design.

The exhibition runs from the 25th of September to the 30th of November 2014 at the National Gallery Victoria
For more information on the exhibition, visit the NGV website.

Enter the historic Rippon Lea House and become immersed in the world of Love, Desire and Riches. Be transfixed by the decor, the fashion and the extravagance of weddings throughout history.

With a collection of over 50 world famous gowns, the exhibition gives visitors a chance to view memorable gowns worn by the stars of yesteryear as well as modern celebrity brides, including Princess Marie Chantal of Greece and Jennifer Hawkins. World famous designers including, Valentino, Collette Dinnegan, Maticevski, Akira Isogawa, Mariana Hardwick and Alex Perry will be featured throughout the exhibition for guests to admire.

Step through the grand entrance of the Rippon Lea mansion to the sweet scent of Orange Blossom. The quintessentially bridal and floral fragrance, welcomes guests to the wedding celebrations awaiting within. The uplifting and dreamy blend of sweet orange and honey is reminiscent of the scent encountered while walking down the isle.

Follow the exhibition through the house to encounter the scenes of calamity in the dining room centred around Charles Dickens’ character Miss Havisham, the jilted bride. The space is featured as the wedding feast that never happened. Covered in dust and mould, the sweet fragrance of delicious treats combined with the bitter taste of decay.

Upstairs, the nervous groom is awaiting his future wife in the gentleman’s quarters. As he prepares himself, he jokes with his friends and adjusts his tie. They are drinking whiskey and smoking cigars; polishing their leather shoes and waxing their moustaches. The combination of leather and spice gently fills the room with masculine notes of anise, tarragon, clove, wood and patchouli.

Just across the hall, the anxious bride is preparing in the bathroom. Layers of delicate undergarments are laid out and with the help of her mother and bridesmaids the bride readies herself. The excitement is building and sweet notes of champagne, soap, hair pomade and perfume circles the room.

Close your eyes and step back in time with the complementary fragrances capturing each moment as it unfolds.

The Love, Desire and Riches exhibition runs from July 1- September 30 in Melbourne.
